DA Campaign Trail Hits Daveyton: Vows To Purge ‘Captured’ EMPD Amid Madlanga Commission Shockwaves

BENONI — The Democratic Alliance (DA) has taken its local government election campaign straight to the streets of Daveyton, promising a radical clean-up of the "captured and corrupt" Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD).

The political offensive was led by the DA's recently announced Ekurhuleni mayoral candidate, Khathutshelo Rasilingwane, who conducted an intensive, door-to-door community oversight blitz. The drive aimed to tap directly into deep public anger regarding rampant neighborhood crime, non-existent service delivery, and the absolute breakdown of trust between residents and the metro police force.

The Frontline of Uniformed Corruption

The campaign trail took place against the backdrop of explosive structural revelations coming out of the ongoing national Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.

The commission has cast a harsh, public spotlight on deep-seated institutional rot across the East Rand, detailing severe criminal networks pulling the strings behind the scenes. According to the DA leadership, the commission's files expose a dangerous environment where those paid to protect the public are actively committing crimes:

  • SAPS & EMPD Collusion: High-ranking metro police officers and South African Police Service (SAPS) officials are allegedly deeply embedded in organized fraud and procurement corruption syndicates.

  • Whistleblower Hunting: Law enforcement officials who attempted to flag internal rot or expose illegal activities have reportedly been hunted down, targeted, and subjected to heavy intimidation by their own colleagues.

  • Abuse of State Power: Marked municipal police vehicles and weapons have allegedly been weaponized to enforce illicit extortion cartels rather than municipal bylaws.

"A city cannot be safe when its own safety structures are compromised," Rasilingwane stated during the Daveyton engagement. "Ekurhuleni residents deserve a government that protects them from criminals, not one where elements of the system meant to enforce the law are themselves corrupt."

The DA's Operational Blueprint for the EMPD

Slamming the current ruling coalition for "endlessly discussing reform while residents live in fear," Rasilingwane unveiled the DA's alternative strategy to stabilize the metro's security grid.

Should the party take total administrative power following the municipal polls on 4 November 2026, the DA has committed to executing an immediate structural overhaul:

[Isolate Political Interference] ➔ [Strengthen Anti-Corruption Audits] ➔ [Enforce Consequence Management] ➔ [Deploy High-Visibility Policing]

The blueprint relies heavily on introducing rigorous, independent lifestyle audits for all high-ranking EMPD commanders to immediately weed out officers living beyond their legal civil service means. Additionally, the party plans to establish real-time joint-operational command rooms to properly coordinate local intelligence between the metro police and SAPS provincial structures.

Reclaiming the Industrial Heart of South Africa

The DA’s mayoral candidate emphasized that fixing the metro police is the critical first domino needed to reverse Ekurhuleni’s ongoing economic decline.

By aggressively suppressing industrial park extortion networks and securing manufacturing hubs from copper cable sabotage, the party argues it can rapidly restore investor confidence. The final objective is to revive the East Rand’s historical status as the manufacturing engine room of South Africa, creating an enabling environment for private-sector job creation and sustainable economic stability.
