​Gumede served as the registered Value-Added Tax (VAT) representative for GG Catering and General Services CC.

DA DEMANDS ACCOUNTABILITY FROM MINISTER GAYTON MCKENZIE OVER ALLEGED R31 MILLION FIFA WORLD CUP DELEGATION SPEND

PARLIAMENT, CAPE TOWN – The Democratic Alliance (DA) has called on the Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, alongside his department, to account directly to Parliament regarding a reported R31 million expenditure for a 151-member delegation to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The party announced that it has written to the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Sport, Arts and Culture, demanding full transparency following what it termed "inadequate and non-accountable" initial responses from the ministry.

Key Oversight Requirements Demanded by the DA

The DA has requested that Minister McKenzie and the Department present a comprehensive submission to the Portfolio Committee detailing seven specific areas:

• Delegation Roster & Qualifications: The full names, professional qualifications, and relevant experience justifying the inclusion of each of the 151 delegation members.

• Operational Roles: The specific roles, responsibilities, and recorded daily activities of each individual delegate during the tournament.

• Stakeholder Engagements: A detailed log of all official meetings and engagements conducted by the Minister and individual delegation members.

• Financial Breakdown: A itemized line-item breakdown of the estimated R31 million expenditure, specifying the exact costs accrued per delegate.

• Sponsorship Transparency: A full accounting of all private or corporate sponsorships received to subsidize the delegation.

• Return on Investment (ROI): A measurable breakdown of the tangible benefits and returns secured for South Africa's sporting, arts, cultural, and tourism sectors relative to the public funds spent.

The DA reaffirmed its stance that it will scrutinize every rand spent during the international trip to ensure public resources are protected and properly justified before Parliament.

PRETORIA, GAUTENG – The Acting National Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS), Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, has commended the newly established Gauteng Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) following key arrests in two high-profile, politically motivated murder cases.

The specialized team tracked down and apprehended suspects linked to the separate assassinations of City of Tshwane ANC Ward Councillor Thabang Masemola and EFF member Aaron Makola.

Case 1: Murder of ANC Councillor Thabang Masemola

Two suspects were arrested in connection with the murder of Thabang Masemola, the ANC Ward 10 Councillor in the City of Tshwane, who was killed on 08 July 2025 in Mamelodi East:

• Suspects Detained: The PKTT arrested the alleged hitman, 41-year-old Vusimuzi "Champ" Gebuza, alongside a female co-conspirator believed to have played a role in planning the hit.

• Additional Charges: The pair will reappear in the Mamelodi Magistrate's Court, where investigators will formally link Gebuza to two additional cases of murder and attempted murder occurring in Mamelodi during 2023 and 2024.

Case 2: Murder and Kidnapping of EFF Member Aaron Makola

Following the discovery of Aaron Makola's body by the PKTT, investigators tracked down and arrested three suspects aged 40, 42, and 44 over the weekend.

• Court Appearance: The three accused are scheduled to appear before the Delmas Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, 05 August 2026.

• Charges: They face multiple counts, including murder, kidnapping, and robbery.
