EASTERN CAPE — The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, widely known as the Hawks, has made a major breakthrough in a high-profile human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation ring.

On Friday, 22 May 2026, the KuGompo-based Serious Organised Crime Investigation unit arrested a 30-year-old female suspect in Johannesburg, Gauteng. The suspect is an additional perpetrator linked to an ongoing investigation and is scheduled to make her first appearance before the KuGompo Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 25 May 2026.

Uncovering the Quigney Brothel Ring

The arrest stems from a deep, intelligence-driven operation that began in 2023. The Hawks’ Trafficking In Person (TIP) team received crucial information regarding a residential property situated in Quigney, KuGompo. The premises were allegedly being run as an illegal brothel and served as a localized hub for organized sexual exploitation.

Acting swiftly on the tip-off, the Hawks launched a comprehensive, multidisciplinary investigation to strip back the operational dynamics of the criminal enterprise.

Coercion and Exploitation of Young Women

Preliminary investigations paint a grim picture of how the syndicate operated. Reports suggest that several young women from various regions within the Eastern Cape province were deceptively recruited, manipulated, transported, and ruthlessly exploited for prostitution under highly coercive circumstances.

Through meticulous, ongoing detective work, investigators positively linked the newly arrested 30-year-old female suspect to the broader case, which already involves 52-year-old Vuyokazi Gana.

Hawks Commend Community and Media Cohesion

Major General Mboiki Obed Ngwenya, the Provincial Head of the Hawks, highly commended the investigating team for their relentless efforts in hunting down the suspect.

Major General Ngwenya also praised the strong cohesion shown by both the local community and members of the media, emphasizing that public vigilance and collaborative reporting are essential components in dismantling human trafficking networks and keeping communities safe.
