In recent weeks, there has been speculation regarding the stability and cohesion of the KwaZulu-Natal Government of Provincial Unity (GPU), following a series of public statements, media reports, and political developments.

In light of this, the IFP National Executive Committee having met today Monday, 3 November 2025, wishes to place on record the following clarifications and reaffirmations.

The IFP reaffirms its full and unwavering support and confidence in the IFP-led Government of Provincial Unity (GPU) under the leadership of Premier Thami Ntuli. The province of KwaZulu-Natal remains stable, and the GPU continues to govern effectively in the collective interest of all the people of KwaZulu-Natal. The provincial government is delivering on its mandate of ensuring service delivery, good governance, and social cohesion.

The IFP also categorically rejects the false and misleading reports published by the Sunday Times suggesting that there is an agreement for MEC Reverend TD Buthelezi MPL, to be reshuffled as MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA). The Party wishes to make it absolutely clear that no such reshuffle agreement was made. The IFP cautions against the spread of misinformation and fake news.

The IFP will continuously engage constructively with all our GPU partners to ensure the long-term viability, functionality, and stability of the Government of Provincial Unity. We remain guided by the principles of cooperation, mutual respect, and accountability, which are foundational to the success of this unity arrangement.

The IFP assures the people of KwaZulu-Natal and South Africa at large that there is no crisis within the GPU. The government remains focused, united, and committed to the work of improving the lives of our people, growing the provincial economy, strengthening service delivery, and restoring confidence in ethical and effective governance.

At this critical time, the IFP calls upon all political parties to act responsibly and place the interests of the people above partisan politics. The GPU represents an important model of cooperation and stability — one that must be nurtured, not undermined.

R1.8 billion Mobile Chemical Toilet Tender

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the City of Ekurhuleni will use the Promotion of Access to Information Act to access the report on the City’s R1.8 billion mobile chemical toilet tender compiled by murdered Divisional Head for Forensic Audit, Mpho Mafole.

The DA wrote to Mayor Xhakaza demanding that the report be brought to the October 2025 council meeting in the interest of transparency.

This request was blatantly ignored.

A City Press investigation over the weekend alluded to interference by a senior politician in the City of Ekurhuleni into police investigations relating to the murder of Mafole.

This, coupled with Mayor Xhakaza’s refusal to table the report, casts a dark shadow over the City and raises concerns as to the depth of the rot that has taken root in Ekurhuleni.

It is imperative that Mafole’s work in uncovering malfeasance and criminality in the City of Ekurhuleni be brought to council and given expression.

Mafole’s death must not be in vain.

We will not allow this report to be concealed.

To do so would be a disservice to not only Mafole’s memory, but to the millions of residents of Ekurhuleni who are failed daily by the ANC-EFF-ActionSA coalition running the City into the ground.

THE COURT RULING REGARDING STREET VENDORS AND BY-LAWS 

The City of Johannesburg’s MMC for Public Safety, Councillor Dr. Mgcini Tshwaku, acknowledges the judgment delivered by Judge Brad Wanless concerning the City’s management of informal trading. The ruling directs the City to undertake a swift, transparent, and legally compliant process to verify, register, and allocate trading spaces to informal traders in full adherence to municipal by-laws and national legislation.

The court emphasized that this process must uphold fairness, non-discrimination, and constitutional compliance. MMC Tshwaku reiterates the department’s continued support for street traders while highlighting the critical need to maintain law and order. “De Villiers Street had become a potential risk area due to uncontrolled crowds, escalating crime, litter accumulation, and the presence of undocumented foreigners posing security concerns,” said MMC Tshwaku.

The ruling also recognizes the significant economic contribution of informal traders to Johannesburg’s economy and confirms the City’s role as a regulator, rather than a prohibitor, of this vital sector. MMC Tshwaku welcomes the opportunity to participate in the diligent implementation of the court order and to ensure the City fully upholds the legal framework governing informal trading.

The Department of Public Safety, through the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) and Emergency Management Services (EMS), will lead a community outreach programme to inform traders and the public that goods in compliance with the law will not be confiscated.

APPLICATION AND VERIFICATION PROCESS FOR INFORMAL TRADING PERMITS

Informal traders wishing to obtain a permit are invited to participate in the verification and registration process as follows:

• Date: 04 November 2025

• Time: 09:00 – 16:00

• Venue: 66 Jorissen Place, Ground Floor, Opportunity Centre, Braamfontein

Eligibility requirements:

Applicants must present originals and copies of the following documents:

1. South African citizens: Green bar-coded ID or Smart Card ID (subject to verification by the Department of Home Affairs).

2. All applicants (18 years and older): Valid ID, Passport, Asylum Seeker Permit, and/or Refugee Permit.

3. Non-South African citizens: Valid passport with a visa authorizing business operation under the Immigration Act, 2002, or an Asylum Seeker Permit issued under the Refugees Act, 1998.

4. Additional required documents:

• Proof of residence (Municipal bill or landlord affidavit)

• Lease agreement issued by the Johannesburg Property Company (JPC)

• Proof of payment of rent to JPC

• Certificate of Acceptability from Environmental Health

• Fire certificate issued by EMS

Only applicants meeting all legal and regulatory requirements will be registered and allocated trading spaces in line with the court order and municipal by-laws.

THE RACIST ZIONIST FEDERATION COMPLAINT TO THE HPCSA AGAINST DR. TLALENG MOFOKENG

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) condemns in the strongest possible terms the conduct of the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA), which has allowed itself to be weaponised by the apartheid Zionist lobby to persecute Dr. Tlaleng Mofokeng — a United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Right to Health — for her principled stance against the genocide being committed by Israel in Palestine. In its letter dated 16 October 2025, the HPCSA confirmed that its First Medical and Dental Committee of Preliminary Inquiry had resolved and found Dr. Mofokeng guilty of “unprofessional conduct” under Regulation 4(9) of the Regulations Relating to Inquiries into Alleged Unprofessional Conduct, and imposed a R10,000 fine for “bringing the profession into disrepute” through “inappropriate language on social media”. 

This decision is baseless, politically motivated, and represents a dangerous precedent for professional regulation in South Africa. The HPCSA’s statutory mandate, under the Health Professions Act 56 of 1974, is to protect the public and guide the medical professions in matters of ethical practice and patient care. It is not an instrument for policing political expression or punishing doctors for exercising their constitutional rights to freedom of conscience, belief, and expression. 

Dr. Mofokeng’s social media posts did not threaten patients, violate medical ethics, or compromise her clinical responsibilities. The complaint itself relied on conjecture and ideological bias rather than any evidence of professional misconduct. The persecution of Dr. Mofokeng is therefore political, not substantive, a weaponisation of regulatory processes to silence an activist and a professional who dared to speak against apartheid Israel’s war crimes and genocide. 

As a UN Special Rapporteur, Dr. Mofokeng is entitled to privileges and immunities to allow her to perform her functions independently and without intimidation, in terms of Article VI, Section 22 of the 1946 Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the United Nations, which protects UN experts from any legal or administrative interference for acts performed in their official capacity. Any action by a global or domestic institution that seeks to penalise her for her official opinions or statements constitutes a breach of international law. 

The EFF wishes to remind the United Nations of their responsibility to protect human rights defenders and that their inactions could be enabling continued harassment, intimidation, defamation and abuse of those UN independent experts who have shown resilience and leadership in a time when multilateral processes didn’t not prevent nor to stop the genocide. 

South Africa’s democratic institutions must remain vigilant against Zionist infiltration and manipulation. Allowing professional regulators to become extensions of foreign political lobbies undermines the integrity of our democracy, our constitutional rights, and our historic solidarity with the oppressed people of Palestine. 

The EFF stands unequivocally with Dr. Tlaleng Mofokeng, UN Special Rapporteur on the right to health and all activists across the world who face harassment for defending justice, truth, and humanity. We reaffirm our solidarity with the Palestinian struggle, we demand an end to the illegal occupation and reject the cowardice of institutions that bow to apartheid Zionism. 

If the HPCSA chooses to allow itself to be weaponised, it will lose the public trust essential to its mandate.

Anti-Gang Unit operations lead to multiple arrests in Eldorado Park, Riverlea, Germiston, Booysens and Westbury

GAUTENG - The Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) arrested 15 suspects in total commencing on Tuesday, 21 October 2025, for a variety of offenses, including drug possession, possession unlicensed firearms and ammunition, firearm pointing, possession of a stolen vehicle, attempted murder, and possession of counterfeit cigarettes. 

These arrests emanate from numerous targeted operations executed in the various policing precincts.

During these operations, the AGU seized illegal substances, including mandrax tablets,crystal meth, firearms, ammunition, Mylan tablets, cartridges, a stolen vehicle, holsters and illicit cigarettes.

The AGU, in collaboration with specialized units such as the SAPS Crime Intelligence, Tactical Response Team (TRT), Public Order Policing Springs, resulted in the arrests of some of these individuals.

The AGU recovered two (2) 9mm pistols, 14 rounds of live ammunition, two magazines, 17 ziplocks containing crystal meth, a vehicle stolen as per a Norkem Park SAPS case, counterfeit cigarettes, mylan tablets, mandrax tablets, two cartridges and dagga.

A 24-year-old suspect was arrested for attempted murder in Riverlea, and in a separate incident a 43-year-old was arrested for pointing of firearm after both being positively identified by the complainants.

All arrested suspects have since appeared before their respective courts.

We urge residents to remain vigilant and report any criminal or suspicious activities to SAPS Crime Stop on 08600 10111. Alternatively, residents can download the MySaps App on their smart devices to report incidents anonymously.
