NPA SECURES LIFE IMPRISONMENT FOR MURDERERS
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) welcomes the effective sentence of life imprisonment handed down by the Ezakheni Regional Court to Bahle Dlamini (33) and Siyabonga Dube (31) following their conviction on charges of murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, and two counts of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
The convictions stem from an incident that occurred on 15 June 2023 in the Roosboom area near Ladysmith. The complainant, who worked as a bakery delivery van driver, and the deceased, Sbonelo Xulu, were delivering bread to a supermarket when they were confronted by Dlamini and Dube, both armed with firearms.
During the robbery, Xulu was fatally shot. The complainant was then forced to drive the accused and drop them off at another location. Before fleeing, the accused stole cellphones belonging to both the deceased and the complainant, as well as cash.
Police officers arrested the accused later that same day at a local taxi rank. Upon their arrest, they were found in possession of the stolen items, as well as two unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
During the trial, Prosecutor Sinethemba Hlongwane successfully led the evidence of the complainant, a Section 204 witness, and the police officers who recovered the firearms from the accused. Following their conviction, the court sentenced Dlamini and Dube to an effective term of life imprisonment and declared them unfit to possess firearms.
The NPA remains steadfast in its commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that perpetrators of violent crime are held accountable for their actions.
We trust that this sentence sends a strong message that violent crimes of this nature will not be tolerated and that justice will be pursued relentlessly on behalf of victims and affected communities.
