The primary suspect, a 42-year-old man, was intercepted after police received information that his vehicle was transporting illicit drugs. While no narcotics were recovered during the search, officers discovered the hidden cash, for which the driver was unable to provide a satisfactory source or accounting.
Seizures and Interrogation Interdict
Following the discovery at the Tugela Plaza toll point, officers seized several items for forensic and financial tracking:

Privately Licensed Firearm
Laptop and Mobile Cellphone
Entrapment Operation Uncovers R200,000 Bribery Attempt
During questioning, the 42-year-old suspect allegedly attempted to bribe the investigating team to drop the charges.
GCI-OPS immediately activated a sting entrapment operation. Two additional accomplices arrived attempting to bribe police officers with R200,000 in cash. Police immediately placed both individuals under arrest, confiscating the R200,000 bribe money alongside their Volkswagen Amarok.
Court Appearances and Legal Proceedings
All three suspects face criminal charges, including money laundering and corruption:
42-Year-Old Driver: Scheduled to appear before the Ladysmith Magistrate's Court in KwaZulu-Natal.
Two Bribery Accomplices: Appeared before the Alexandra Magistrate's Court in Gauteng on Friday, 14 August 2026.
