GOVERNMENT URGES VIGILANCE AGAINST RISING CYBER THREATS

Government, in partnership with stakeholders across law enforcement, civil society, and the private sector, hosted a webinar on Cybersecurity Awareness and Responsible Use of Online Platforms as part of Cybersecurity Awareness Month. The webinar brought together experts to empower South Africans with knowledge and tools to protect themselves online.

Deputy Director for Cybersecurity Operations at the Department of Communications and Digital Technologies, Noma-Efese Mnqeta, highlighted the role of the National Cybersecurity Hub, a Computer Security Incident Response Team hosted by the department. The Hub works closely with the South African Police Service on cybercrime investigations, the Internet Service Providers’ Association on fraudulent website takedowns, and the Government Communication and Information System on public awareness. She warned about the growing prevalence of tender scams, investment scams and online shopping fraud, which continue to target unsuspecting citizens.

Omphile Kgwathe-Nkiwane, Head of Client Services at Digify Africa, encouraged South Africans to practice safe digital habits through platforms like Kitso on WhatsApp (076 593 7181), which provides parents, teachers, and learners with digital safety tips. She urged citizens to use strong passwords and avoid personal information in them. Never share one-time pins (OTPs) or banking details, avoid public Wi-Fi for sensitive transactions and to stay alert to suspicious links, unsolicited calls, and fraudulent emails.

Acting CEO of the Film and Publications Board (FPB), Hulisani Ramugadi, raised concern about the rise in harmful online content, including image-based abuse, cyberbullying, hate speech, and malicious AI-generated material. He emphasised that sharing intimate images without consent is a crime and highlighted FPB’s partnerships with social media platforms to issue takedown notices for harmful material.

Brigadier Rapula Mosito, Section Head of Cybercrime Investigation at the HAWKS, indicated that cybercrime is enforceable under the Cybercrimes Act 19 of 2020, while cybersecurity matters are guided by the forthcoming Cybersecurity Bill. He identified phishing, ransomware, malware, identity theft, online child exploitation, and personal data theft as key threats.

Government calls on members of the public to remain vigilant, responsible, and digitally literate to ensure their safety in cyberspace. Cybersecurity is a shared responsibility, and by working together, we can protect citizens, especially vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly, from the ever-growing threats in the digital space.

BOSA , GOOD , RISE MZANSI ,UNITE FOR CHANGE

UNITE FOR CHANGE: FIRST THREE PARTIES - BOSA, GOOD AND RISE MZANSI -UNITE TO FORM NEW POLITICAL CENTRE FOR CHANGE

Today, three national political parties, and their respective leaders, have heard the call of the nation, put aside their differences, and taken the formative steps towards building an offering for citizens to unite around in bringing change and hope to villages, towns and cities across South Africa.

We proudly announce the launch of Unite for Change, a new political party and movement that will campaign in the 2026 Local Government Elections under one shared banner.
The first three founding parties are Build One South Africa (BOSA), the GOOD Party, and RISE Mzansi.

We are united for change under one name, one set of electoral lists, one shared platform and one purpose.

This new political party will be registered with the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), and all current and future parties that join will run for election under the new name and banner.
Our founding Leaders’ Council brings together a diverse and experienced leadership that recognises that true strength comes from unity of purpose.

The members of the Leaders’ Council, in no particular order, are Dr Mmusi Maimane MP, Minister Patricia de Lille MP, Songezo Zibi MP, Nobuntu Hlazo-Webster MP, MEC Vuyiswa Ramokgopa MPL, and Brett Herron MPP.

This is a new offering to voters, a credible and consolidated alternative to the lack of real options South Africans face on the ballot paper.
It is not a coalition of convenience but a coming together of equals, demonstrating the responsibility of leadership which often requires a different approach to the one we once believed was right.

As we prepare for the 2026 elections, our campaign will focus on five urgent priorities to uplift municipalities across the country:

1. Capable and Ethical Leadership. Identifying and unearthing new and existing skills and talent, values-based leadership, and ending cadre deployment and corruption in government.

2. Local Economic Recovery. Creating jobs and growth through local investment. Positioning cities as the main drivers of change, the focus is on the digital economy, creative economy, care economy, and tourism economy.

3. Dignity Through Basic Services. Providing what no citizen should go without: water, electricity, refuse, reliable public transport, basic housing, and decent healthcare.

4. Safety and Justice. Tackling crime, corruption, and violence at their roots, underpinned by the promotion and protection of the Rule of Law. All rules must be applied and adhered to, and those who come here from other countries must do so legally and contribute positively to South Africa.

5. Digitisation. Harnessing technology to drive smarter resource allocation, enable predictive modelling to anticipate community needs, guide planning, ensure proactive infrastructure maintenance, and make procurement corruption-proof.

This offer to citizens is based on our shared vision for the South Africa we all deserve, where every person lives a dignified life, every community is served, and every sphere of government is held to account.

The birth of Unite for Change does not signal the end of its founding parties.

Current councillors, MPs and MPLs will continue to serve under existing party brands, as they were elected to do.

BOSA, GOOD and RISE Mzansi remain fully intact as entities, with their current electoral mandates and responsibilities honoured in full.

This is the first step towards the long-term mission we are on.

It honours a generational mandate to end dysfunction, neglect, and inequality that defines life for far too many in our country
It is but the start and signals an open invitation.

We recognise that politics and politicians alone cannot repair and build South Africa.

This work requires all citizens, businesses, academics, civil society organisations, NGOs, and other organised groups to work in unison.

Today we invite:
• Political parties that share our values

• Prominent individuals willing to step forward

• Community organisations and NGOs working for dignity and justice

• South Africans ready to stand as councillor candidates in their own wards and municipalities; and

• Citizens who want to roll up their sleeves and campaign to build our country.

The door is wide open, with conversations already underway with others to grow this movement.

However, we must state categorically that our values act as both an invitation and a necessary deterrent.

Any parties, organisations or individuals who exist to capitalise on division have no safe harbour in this new party. We exist for all, and our ethos explicitly and overtly prioritises that.

Moreover, we reject the insidious narrative that voters must choose between values and competence, as some political parties wish to frame electoral choices.

It is insulting to assume that a political party cannot both align with your values while also providing solid and effective governance and service delivery.

The new party is soundly rooted in the foundational values of social justice, non-racialism, anti-corruption, and constitutionalism, aligned with South Africa’s social-democratic and constitutional tradition.

The Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed by all three founding parties states that the National Executive Committee will adopt a candidate selection model that prioritises merit-based selections in respect of all candidate lists.

The model will have an intense focus on getting people to stand for election as councillors who are from their community, known in their community, and accountable to their community.

We invite councillor candidates, especially new ones, to put their hands up and play their part in turning around towns and cities across the country.

The MOA also mandates a policy review process.

This will measure every proposal against three tests: is it constitutional, is it evidence-based, and will it expand opportunity for all South Africans.

Where differences exist, we’ll reach consensus based on what is credible and works for the country.

In the immediate term, the organising mission for policy formulation will be local government focused.

Unite for Change is a proactive approach to our most urgent crises. That is fixing municipalities and rehabilitating local government - which we see as the most important sphere of government.

Our immediate priority is direct engagement with communities. Beginning this month, we will embark on a series of town halls, community dialogues, and roundtables.

This nationwide tour will form the foundation for the rollout of our unified policy platform ahead of the 2026 local government elections, ensuring that our agenda reflects the real needs and aspirations of the people we aim to serve.

We invite all South Africans who are ready to be part of meaningful change to take action today.

Visit our website, sign up as a member, and stay connected to the heartbeat of this movement.

Today, we unite for working municipalities. Today, we unite for dignity. Today, we unite for safety.

Today, we Unite for Change!

EZULWENI WRIT OF EXECUTION AGAINST ANC

EZULWENI WRIT OF EXECUTION AGAINST ANC

The African National Congress (ANC) notes media reports and public commentary, regarding the writ of execution obtained by Ezulweni against the ANC. The ANC, through its legal representatives and forensic auditors, has formally notified the plaintiff and their attorney about the novation of the court order.

Tayfin Forensics, appointed to investigate this matter, has obtained a sworn affidavit from a former ANC employee who admitted to being bribed to falsely claim that Ezulweni delivered banners and advertising materials.

Further forensic investigations have revealed that Ezulweni was not registered for VAT at the time of the transaction, yet fraudulently charged VAT. This issue will be referred to the South African Revenue Service (SARS) for appropriate action.

The ANC is in the process of setting aside the writ of execution and intends to pursue a counterclaim for all payments made to date.

The ANC believes that Ezulweni has been unjustly enriched and plans to initiate private prosecution proceedings against its directors. The ANC will not be distracted by attempts to sensationalise this matter and by the leaking of confidential information to the media.

We remain committed to transparency and accountability and will act firmly, within the bounds of the law, to protect the integrity of our movement. As we will be engaged in judicial proceedings, the ANC will refrain from further public discussion of this matter.

Mr. Mahier Tayob is authorised to respond to any media inquiries following the filing of our intended application and related legal actions.

JUDGEMENT AGAINST MR JULIUS MALEMA ON FIREARM TRIAL

JUDGEMENT AGAINST MR JULIUS MALEMA ON FIREARM TRIAL

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) notes the judgment delivered today in which the President and Commander-in-Chief of the EFF, Julius Malema, has been found guilty in the firearms case by the East London Magistrate Court. This matter, relating to an incident at the EFF’s 5th Anniversary celebrations in the Eastern Cape in 2018, has been maliciously pursued for more than seven years.

Throughout this period, the case has been dragged through the courts, not because of compelling evidence, but because of the political agenda driving it. It is no surprise that the state has pursued this matter to this point, for there have always been coordinated attempts to discredit and sabotage the EFF and its leadership. from the moment CIC Malema and the EFF fearlessly confronted corruption in the highest offices, demanded land expropriation without compensation, and exposed the capture of the state by both local and global capital, the system has sought to silence him by any means necessary.

We are not shocked by the outcome of this judgment, because the racist right-wing Donald Trump has openly issued an instruction for the arrest of the President regardless of whether there is a legitimate case or not. This has created a political climate in which the judiciary is influenced by imperialist and right-wing agendas rather than evidence and fairness.

This judgment is part of a wider pattern, as CIC has faced a series of politically motivated prosecutions in the past. He was dragged before courts on charges relating to freedom of speech and the singing of our very own struggle songs, as well as encouraging his own organisation to stand up to white racists in the case of Brackenfell.

The EFF is therefore not surprised nor deterred by this judgment. We will engage the judgment further, seek comprehensive legal advice, and move with the attention to appeal this ruling, trusting that higher courts will expose the weaknesses and contradictions of this prosecution. We also raise serious questions about the conduct of the magistrate, particularly the acceptance of hearsay evidence that was not tested in court. Such practices undermine the fairness and integrity of judicial proceedings.

When the state previously failed to prosecute the CIC on trumped-up charges that were dismissed, it became clear that the intention has always been to persecute him in any way possible, regardless of merits or evidence. It is even more hypocritical and proves a political agenda, that accused number two who was alleged to have handed the firearm to the CIC has been acquitted of all charges, yet the individual he is accused of handing the firearm to has been found guilty.

This proves that this was a witch hunt to target the President of the EFF and find him guilty no matter how irrational it may be For this reason, the EFF has accepted that we must continue to fight not only political persecution but also the broader alliance of racist organisations, elements of the judiciary, and state machinery that remain in the pockets of the white establishment.

The persecution of CIC Malema is ultimately an attack on the millions who look to the EFF as a vehicle for change. It is an attack on the poor, the landless, the workers, and the youth of this country who refuse to be silenced. We reaffirm our full support for our President and CIC, and we call on all Fighters, ground forces, and progressive South Africans to remain committed to the cause of economic freedom in our lifetime.

The President and Commander-in-Chief, Julius Malema, will continue to demonstrate his respect for due process by availing himself for all court proceedings, including the sentencing scheduled for the 23rd of January 2026.

MEMBERSHIP STATUS OF MR OUPA BROWN MOGOTSI

MAKEKASIGREAT©®™ @KASIBC_AFRICA

ONLINE EDITOR @KASIBC_AFRICA

MEMBERSHIP STATUS OF MR OUPA BROWN MOGOTSI

The African National Congress (ANC) has noted recent allegations that certain individuals, including Mr Oupa Brown Mogotsi, are alleged to be involved in serious organised criminal activity. Our membership records confirm that Mr Mogotsi’s ANC membership has expired.

We now can confirm that Mr Mogotsi is therefore not an ANC member. These allegations are deeply concerning, not only for the individuals involved, but also for the communities and institutions whose safety, stability and confidence are undermined by criminal syndicates.

The ANC wishes to make it clear: we distance ourselves unequivocally from any form of organised criminal activity. Crime and corruption are the enemies of development and democracy. They corrode the very values for which generations of South Africans sacrificed in the struggle for freedom.

The ANC will not allow its name to be associated with those who betray the principles of our movement for personal gain. Membership Status and Renewal Should any individual implicated in criminal activity apply for membership, such an application will be processed strictly in terms of the ANC Constitution, which governs the rights and obligations of every member. Rule 4.2 provides that membership of the ANC is open to all South Africans over the age of 18 who accept its principles, policies and programmes, and who are prepared to abide by its Constitution and rules. Rule 4.10 provides that any objection to an application for membership may be made by any member to the Branch, Regional or Provincial Secretary. Rule 4.11 provides that at any time before the individual is accepted as a full member of the Organisation, or in exceptional circumstances even after the member has been admitted, the Secretary General may rule that the application or the membership be rejected if it was obtained invalidly. Rule 4.16 requires every new member to make a solemn declaration, pledging loyalty to the aims and objectives of the ANC, and to place their skills and energies at the disposal of the people, not for personal enrichment: “I, […], solemnly declare that I will abide by the aims and objectives of the African National Congress as set out in the Constitution, the Freedom Charter and other duly adopted policy positions, that I am joining the Organisation voluntarily and without motives of material advantage or personal gain, that I agree to respect the Constitution and the structures and to work as a loyal member of the Organisation, that I will place my energies and skills at the disposal of the Organisation and carry out tasks given to me, that I will work towards making the ANC an even more  effective instrument of liberation in the hands of the people, and that I will defend the unity and integrity of the Organisation and its principles, and combat any tendency towards disruption and factionalism.” Duties of Members and Misconduct Membership of the ANC is not only a right; it comes with solemn duties. Rule 5.2.7 requires every member to observe discipline, behave honestly, and loyally carry out the decisions of the ANC.

The ANC Constitution is unambiguous about what constitutes misconduct: Rule 25.17.4 prohibits any unethical or immoral conduct that detracts from the character, values and integrity of the ANC, or which brings the movement into disrepute. Rule 25.17.17 further provides that conduct which prejudices the integrity or repute of the Organisation — including collaboration with counter-revolutionary forces or groups that undermine the ANC’s mission — is grounds for disciplinary action. Organised crime syndicates, by their very nature, fall within this definition.

They operate as counter-revolutionary networks, undermining state capacity, hollowing out institutions, and fuelling factionalism, corruption and violence. No ANC member can be part of such structures and still claim to honour the solemn declaration of membership. The ANC’s Position The ANC will act firmly and without hesitation against any of its members found to be involved in criminal activity. Cases will be referred to the Integrity Commission and, where warranted, to the ANC’s disciplinary structures in line with Rule 25. They will also be reported to law enforcement, because no one is above the law. The ANC is a liberation movement that has always placed the interests of the people first.

We remind South Africans that the ANC is bigger than any individual. Those who betray its values for greed, criminality or factional interests are not acting in the name of the ANC. The ANC will continue to renew itself so that, together with the people, we can build a capable, ethical and developmental state that works for all.
